Class of 2004
1) What brought to you Mars Hill Academy and when?
I began at Mars Hill Academy at the very beginning. My mother taught the
first, second, and third grade classes, so she decided to enroll my sister,
third grade, and myself, fifth grade, in this new and intriguing Christian
school.
2) What were some of your favorite classes at Mars Hill Academy?
This is a difficult question. I enjoyed many classes during my time at MHA.
Among my favorites, however, was my high school humanities class. In addition
to being interesting and engaging, this class looked at various works
of classic literature with an understanding of their historical contexts,
and gave us the ability to utilize advanced writing techniques and to
participate in class-wide discussions. There is so much that any student
can gain from that class.
3) How has Mars Hill effected where you have chosen to attend college
and the areas of study you have chosen to pursue?
Mars Hill sets the goals and aims of a student very high. They bring out
the student’s full potential by hard work and excellent study skills.
From the moment I began looking at colleges I knew that I was prepared and
capable of handling almost any form of higher education in the country.
MHA also brought out my interest in many subjects. It gave me specific goals
that I am working on accomplishing right now.
4) What does Classical Education mean to you?
Classical education as taught at Mars Hill is a way of studying concepts
from the past and incorporating them with ideas in today’s society.
It gives you a strong foundation in history and allows you to think for
yourself. Mars Hill Academy is one of a kind. It gives the student the
opportunity to receive an excellent education but also gives the student
a chance to grow up in a family environment with great friends and mentors.
I am very grateful for my time at Mars Hill.
